UnGoogle your life!

Google. It's become synonymous with performing a seach on the internet. For a good reason, its search engine is indeed very powerful and intelligent. As a result it's market share is enormous. http://ift.tt/1OOeSet

But there's a downside to that. Because of the enormous data that goes through Google's servers, on a global scale, the company doesn't merely use that data to provide you with better search results. It trades in that data. Your data.

You might not consider that a big deal. But once you realize how much Google actually knows about you, you might change your mind. They literally track and record anything and every thing you do and use that data to create a profile of you and your interests that they can use for whatever purpose they see fit.

If you have Google on your phone, they can even track where you go and what you do while you're there. Depending on the apps you have installed they can even track financial transactions through near field communication.

You have no controle of what they do with that data. Years ago already Snowden revealed that intelligence agencies could have access to such data. And in the meantime the technology has only advanced.

But there are alternatives. You don't have to use Google. And it may seem like David vs Goliath but that's how it was with Microsoft's Internet Explorer too once. Its marketshare was even higher than Google's and today IE doesn't even exist anymore. So the fight can be won.

Personally I have switched to Duckduckgo as my search enigine and I encourage others to do the same.
