Australian Open 2016

mardi 19 janvier 2016

Hi guys sorry a bit late on this. My hands have been full.

Anyone had any predictions going into this tournament? Winner or quarterfinals?

My predictions were the following:

Djokovic-Tsonga
Federer-Agut
Anderson-Wawrinka
Ferrer-Murray

I did like the draw (very unique, not too repetitive), Djokovic again I think got a tougher draw however somewhat better than some of those Wimbledon draws he's had in the past. I see him winning the tournament again. The possibility of a loss is not so surprising but with the Australian Open it is almost like the closest thing to home. There are Serbian spectators and the regular Aussie fans seem appreciative of his talent and efforts. I see Djokovic beating Murray again probably in 4 sets again.

Very upset that Anderson lost this early. Kind of sad. Lots of these guys are retiring, injured, sick, out of shape so early. I actually thought maybe Nadal would have lost a bit later to someone like Anderson or Monfils. His form is so poor right now that Verdasco actually survived this one even though Verdasco has been in decline for a long period of time now.

Everyone is trying to figure out Djokovic. Very difficult. I'm curious to see how Federer will respond in this tournament. He's got another decent draw and I still don't see someone like Dimitrov hurting him yet. At the same time I just can't see Federer doing anything to Djokovic at all. He seems content with where he's at and realizes the situation so no big deal. I'm more curious to see which of Murray or Wawrinka will emerge from that side of the draw, Wawrinka has a more dangerous game in general and can hurt anyone when he's focused; including Djokovic, however there are times he lacks that discipline and focus and ends up with dissappointing results even deep in the tournament. I feel Murray has been in better form in recent times and just more convincing to reach the final though I'm still not sure he's ready for Djokovic yet.

Awesome 2nd round matches

Tsonga vs. Jasika
Federer-Dolgopolov
Thiem-Almagro
Raonic-Robredo.

Seems like one of the more tougher tournaments in recent years with tricky opponents this early. Nishikori defeated Kohlschreiber. I thought he'd get upset.
