This is a puzzle I've laid many times. And every time it comes out differently. Could it just be that the England XI is the most debatable selection in history?
My current line-up is one that is built around this visionary player:
When watching Bobby Charlton, I can't help but notice the lack of structure the offensive play has. Offering the big legend upon the altar of sacrifice might bring up the crop yields.
The XI:

#1 Gordon Banks
Shilton vs Banks: http://ift.tt/1HekmOV
#2 Jimmy Armfield
There were no worldclass right backs that would rampage straight to goal like our #3. However Armfield with his statue can keep things solid at the back when Moore moves forward and vice versa.
#3 Stuart Pearce
Pearce, with his Facchetti type runs, would have a great time playing one-two's with Hoddle.
#4 John Terry
The most prolific header from the back can cover for both his offensive neighbours from his best position.
#5 Bobby Moore
England's most unanimous ball playing defender will have to play right centerback here.
#6 Bryan Robson & #8 Steven Gerrard
Both midfield bosses add movement and the necessary defensive solidity to complement Hoddle.
#7 & #11
In the evolution of football, the classic winger has made room for the modern one; the outside forward/inside winger. Simply put, defenders now not only have to worry about who's getting on the end of crosses but also who might deliver them, as they may cut inside and score themselves.
Waddle and Finney fit this profile best. Both were fast, strong with their weaker foot, prolific in front of goal and they can even swop positions.
#9 George Camsell
Perhaps a blast from the past but he was fast and deadly, an excellent target for Hoddle.
