Marcelo has been included once again in the FIFA Team of the Year. I think it's time to question this wonderful player's place in history.
Marcelo's break as a world-class player was 2011 when he was included in the UEFA Team of the Year being considered by many was the World's best left-back.
Next year he improved even more and won the La Liga with Real and was included in return in the FIFA Team of the Year. That year he was the undisputed best left-back on the planet being a providential player for Real's succes.
2014 was another great year for Marcelo when he won the Copa del Ret and won the La Decima making a great game in the final. He was played for his NT in the World Cup and was named as the best left-back of the tournament. This award has been criticised but it may also contribute to overation to his overall career alla Xavi-Iniesta awards.
And this year he has been once again named as the best left-back on the planet being included in the 2015 FIFA Team of the Year making it 3 years when he has been the best football player in the world in his respective position.
He is very often compared to Roberto Carlos, who himself said Marcelo was his heir, the world's best left back and that "Marcelo possesses a better technical ability than me".After his breakthrough season, Marcelo was praised by football legends such as Paolo Maldini and Diego Maradona, who also called him the best in his position.
There's no question that Marcelo has been the best left-back of his era so the reason I made this thread is to concluded if he should already be considered an all-time great in his position.
