Thought it would be a good idea to have a separate thread for all the news in the run up to the tournament this summer.
To kick things off......the squad for the friendlies against Qatar and Greece have been announced:
Kaleciler: Volkan Babacan, Mert Günok, Hayrullah Mert Akyüz
Savunma: Gökhan Gönül, Şener Özbayraklı, Serdar Aziz, Hakan Balta, Ahmet Yılmaz Çalık, Atınç Nukan, İsmail Köybaşı, Emre Taşdemir
Orta Saha: Ozan Tufan, Okay Yokuşlu, Arda Turan, Yasin Öztekin, Alper Potuk, Hakan Çalhanoğlu, Olcay Şahan, Selçuk İnan, Oğuzhan Özyakup, Mehmet Topal, Yunus Mallı, Emre Çolak
Forvet: Cenk Tosun, Burak Yılmaz
The overall theme reflects the fact that there is an element to experimentation in this squad. The 8 players I've got in italics are the ones that will be given a chance to prove themselves. All the other ones probably have a better than 50% chance of making the tournament squad.
No surprise to see Yunus get his first call up on the back of his announcement to play for us. Caner isn't included but I'm sure that is to make sure we get a good look at Ismail and Emre Tasdemir as his potential backups.
No Tore=no call up for the tournament? Now that Yunus is an option and with the likelyhood of Tore getting a +2 game suspension......just maybe.
Alper is rewarded after his recent performances. He is one of those players on the fringe and needs to impress to grab his seat on the plane to France.
Good to see Atinc and Ahmet Yilmaz in the squad. Ahmet is only 21 and he has been playing as first choice CB at Gencler since the age of 18.
Bit of a surprise not to see a 3rd striker. Would have been good to take a look at Mo Demir as a possibility. Sadly, Mevlut just isn't playing enough at the moment.
