SPORTING CP - Estoril Praia

************

After last weekend's superb display over one of our two biggest rivals we've managed to get a 2 point lead in the league table and now it's time to work hard in order to keep it. Alvalade should be completely packed for this one so all is set for a great game. Wish I could be there!

Estoril already played with the other two big teams of our league and in both matches they lost but hey played quite well.

JJ can't count with Aquilani and Naldo (both injured) and Adrien (suspended for one match after seeing a 5th yellow this season). He also decided not to call Esgaio nor Jonathan Silva.

Here's the list of players called:

Art or garbage?

Apparently the cleaning lady at the Museum of Bolzano thought she stumbled onto the remains of a late night party and threw the entire "Dove andiamo a ballare questa sera?" art exhibit in the trash.

To be honest I can't really blame her. And if her defense she did an outstanding job of making the floor seem spotless again.

What if Champions League had kept the good old rules?

Hi guys
I'm a fan of the old European Cups and tried to figure out how it would have looked like Champions League if it had kept the old rules i.e. only the winning teams of their national league able to take part plus the title holder.

For every season beginning from 1997-98 I drew a chart of the best teams, those who went farthest in that year, and checked wether those teams were eligible accordin' the goo' ol' rules, leaving out those who weren't

This is the result, what di you think about it?

What if Champions League had kept the good old rules?

Getafe CF vs FC Barcelona
Coliseum Alfonso Pérez (Getafe) | Sat, Oct 31 | 20:30 CET
Referee: Martínez Munuera, Juan

Majority of our most important first team players have rested during this
week as the reserve players and some B players have played in the
Copa match. But this weekend is a differend song, as Barcelona will
travel to Getafe, town near Madrid, where they will play against Getafe
who is an unpleasant opponent to play against.

Getafe is currently in 13th place in La liga with 10 points. In their last
five league matches they've won twice, drew once and lost twice. They
will miss Bernard Mensah, Álvaro Medrán and Álvaro Vázquez due to
injury, and Vigaray due to sancions.

Barça will miss Messi, Rafinha and Douglas due to injury, and
Mascherano due to sancions. Everyone else is more or less ready to
play.

The importance of information sources in History of Football.

The importance of coming to xtratime in this forum football history is to share and deliver information for discuss seriously and with foundations. This activity is important to overcome prejudices, develop knowledge and produce true opinion.

In this context, I still remember when I got to Xtratime and I said that Elias Figueroa was elected on 2 occasions (1975 and 1976) the best player in the world by FIFA.

Many doubted the information, question my credibility and even made fun of me:
http://ift.tt/1PbguiM

Over time in many occasions I made the task to affirm and reaffirm this information.

Example:
http://ift.tt/1PbguiO
http://ift.tt/1LI4C5q

My disappointment was so great that certainly, I became obsessive with this issue.
But injustice, bias and bullying (for lack of brains) was much.

Now I come here to settle this matter.

Along with the information and verified before, now Elías Figueroa wrote a article for the famous Spanish sports newspaper "As daily"
The article is caled "Los retos de la generación dorada"

On this article Figueroa put on the table the issue about best player in the history of Chile. Figueroa exposes your arguments already known to the people and interpellates to current Chilean footballers to overcome him.

http://ift.tt/1LI4B1a

The point is that Figueroa said that he was chosen three times the best of America, between 1974 and 1976, and twice the best in the world by FIFA, in 1975 and 1976.

1975 AND 1976!!!!!

BY THE FIFA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

It should be noted several factors:
1) .- There are many sources exposed for what was said here.
2) .- The media exposed are serious means.
3) .- The daily AS Spain is an prestigious international sports diary.
4) .- The daily AS Spain is an objective means of communication not chilean.
5) .- Is the FIFA who gives recognition to Figueroa.
6).- The recognition is by 2 years, 1975 and 1976.

At this point, they made fun of me, but time gives me the reason.
I do not ask anyone to recant, I ask only take seriously the arguments here exposed and respect the South American football. I SAID.

His previous contract was going to expire in 2017. The club has added 3 years to that.

Previously a midfielder and that's pretty visible. He's not afraid to pass the ball forward and his crosses are above average. Still needs to learn a thing or two about positioning when it comes to defending. Pretty much where Karsdorp was twelve months ago I guess.

Serie A: Fiorentina v Frosonine

Fiorentina v Frosonine

Sunday Morning

Finally! We are the early morning kick off! How long I have waited to wake up on Sunday morning and look forward without looking too far forward to the next Serie A Viola match. It also means that despite not being the big league match, we will still almost certainly be televised in the UK.

You join me after a really difficult two weeks which is starting to wind down and I'll be able to get some rest soon. However, the work is not completely done yet and I'll have to be ready for action again until I can truly rest - much like our team!

The win last week brought stability to a slippage that looked like we were about to come into a nightmare of losses. We, instead, took a win to stay afloat with all the other teams surrounding teams who also won. We are two points from the top. Roma currently occupy the summit two points clear of us, three of which we gave to them. We really need to stop doing that.

We also need to steer clear of tricky newly promoted teams like Frosonine that could provide a banana skin to our relatively decent start to the season.

I heard somewhere that Gilberto is back? I'll breathe easy if that's the case, especially given that Marcos Alonso is still unavailable. According to the team officials Astori is completely fine. This is another relief given how much his presence has improved the team.

I wonder sometimes, should we have an alternative home formation?

Fiorentina 3-4-2-1:

Tatarusanu

Astori - Gonzalo - Roncaglia

Pasqual - Vecino - Valero - Badelj - Blaszczykowski

Rossi - Kalinic

Dionisi - Ciofani

Soddimo - Gori - Chibsah - Paganini

Crivello - Blanchard - Diakite - Rosi

Leali

Frosonine 4-4-2:

This match is live on BT Sport...admittedly I haven't checked.

11:30 here. 12:30 over there.

7:30am Boston. 10:30pm Melbourne. 2:30pm Bahrain.

Canonical Gospel of Eastern Horde Ascension

Are there written accounts of the life, proto-death, and resurrection of WWE ‎ascendants? Or, is it an oral tradition?*

Is the historicity dependant on forgiveness during an airing of grievances? And does this constitute a baptism?

Is impurity valued over homogeneity? If yes, is the Bosnian NT your patron saint?

Do you have a Boban nativity scene? If so, what is his essence?

Is there written Pillars of Eastern Horde Ascension duties that must be respected/performed? And do you have prayer hoodies?

So many questions. Please help me understand.

Great NTs that could have been possible if not for politics/religion/nationalism

In hockey, I go back 10 to 15 years. That was a time when not only did Czech Rep. have some excellent players like Jagr and Hasek, etc. but so did Slovakia with a surprisingly high number of excellent players like Demitra, Palffy, Gaborik, Hossa, Chara, Bondra. What if Czechoslovakia was still united? How amazing would that team be? Czechs won the 1998 Olympics anyway but in the immediate years after that, that unified team would have been amazing.

In football, Soviets had a nice team for a while and won Euro and boasted some serious talent spread across Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, etc.

Yugoslavia was a contender in the 80s and early 90s from what I read. And some of their great players went on to the form the core of Croatia's 1998 WC team that was loaded for such a small country.

Czechs won Euro as well a long time ago but I have no idea how many of them were Slovaks.

And W. Germany did alright without E. Germany!

What if Britain was a united team like in the 2012 Olympics. And even included Ireland if they didn't break away almost a hundred years ago?

How great could some of their teams have been if they included some of the great Scottish, Irish and Welsh players from Liverpool's dominant teams. And the others from different teams and decades? John Charles, George Best, Ian Rush, Keegan, Souness, Dalglish to name a few.

Not so much recently but they could have had guys like Damien Duff (world class during his time at Chelsea IMO), Roy Keane, Bale, Ramsey, etc.

I'd think a UK team would have won another trophy or two after WC '66.

I don't know how many great German players since unification came from East Germany but that would be interesting to read up on.

I wonder how good Yugoslavia could have been if they didn't break up. They could be at the level of a Portugal over the past 15 years at least.

Croatia obviously has produced some nice players even after the WC '98 team. Modric for example. Bosnia, Serbia and Slovenia too.

A Soviet team since breakup I'm not sure would have been much better. Off the top of my head, guys like Kaladze, Rebrov and Shevy along with Kanchelskis could have been nice but I don't recall the peaks of their careers crossing over at the same time.

I hope Spain doesn't split up and I have to add them to this thread many years down the road.
Great NTs that could have been possible if not for politics/religion/nationalism

Is England the unluckiest team for career ending/altering injuries and wasted talent?

Or does it just seem that way because of all the media and hype that England gets?

Wilshere was supposed to be THE MAN in England's midfield for the next 15 years. But he's ALWAYS injured. And no other English player has the same touch on the ball or fluidity of movement like he does.

Ledley King would have been a mainstay in their D for a long time but his knees were gone.

Owen should have played at a very high level for a few more years but injuries did him in.

Gazza was considered a top 3 player in the world for a short time at his peak. But he was absolutely mental. If he somehow kept his nose clean and stayed out of trouble off the pitch, and focused more on his training, he could have played at world class level for many more years than he did. And what if he signed with Sir Alex (who wanted him) and not with Newcastle or Spurs? SAF might have set him straight.

Any other teams you can think of that had multiple injuries and wasted careers to extremely important players that had a significant effect on the national team's future performances for years to come?

Our Own Gigi? Donnarumma, Youngest Keeper in Serie A History

Pretty radical move by Mihajlovic to bench the experienced Diego López for a sixteen-year-old to debut in a must-win match... But so far it seems to have worked. We did get our first clean sheet with Donnarumma on goal last week.

At 16, he is probably five years younger than the average young goalkeepers who gets a chance. And he hasn't looked out of place.

Now, is he really a massive talent that Mihajlovic has discovered and showed the courage to play? Or is it just a desperate move? Or maybe just an attempt to put some pressure on López and see him back to form in a few weeks?

We had not had anything remotely similar since Abbiati's rise under Zac probably. It sure beats seeing the likes of Amelia. I really hope this post will be the start of a long thread and the another jinx-suspicious one. In any case, this is exciting, and yet another reason to watch our games with some hope.

Fagyi's blog - Guaranteed To Melt

My very own thread. Here's where I write my drivel to keep the rest of the forum drivel free. Please feel free to ask a question. I welcome them!

I've been buying lot of new clothes recently. I just bought some gold cufflinks and tie pin.

After losing much weight (sure to lose more) I want to get the use out of some clothes that won't fit much longer. Lot of the things I have a smart shirts. But I don't have many ties, cufflinks etc to go with them. So that's what I'm looking for. If anyone knows of a place that sells good stuff at good prices I welcome it.

I'm also buying tons of stuff on eBay from China. Best to cut out the middle men. You save a lot of cash this way + plus you can make deals with them. I have now at least 10 contacts in China who get me stuff I want. I have one guy who sells me a nice priced fake Rolex or Omega watch for 30-35 depending how much I buy. In UK these sell £100 a time (no pun intended). Nice little earner. Guys in the business say these are the best fakes out there. You can only tell they're fake if you take the backs off. So you could potentially trick someone saying its the real McCoy.

That's all for now folks. More Fagyi wisdom coming your way soon. Remember you can ask anything or ask me to give an opinion or thought on a news event.

But play nice! Before you post think if it will hurt Fagyi's feelings.

Why would girls allow their boyfriends to video tape them while doing the wild mambo?

A friend of Dags dated this guy for nearly three years. They "loved each other" there were no trust issues, and yes they made a tape. Big surprise, their love did not endure the test of time! He cheated on her, she found out and won't take him back and he's ticked off!

She believes her ex will either upload the video or show it to a friend(s) without her consent of course. :yuck::thmbdown::crazy:

Why did you do it in the first place (Dags asked)?

She replied: I thought it would be fun, naughty, and sexy. Very erotic!

Seriously what is wrong with you people?!
Why do girls like to get treated like dirty ladies of the night, for lack of a better word? Whatever happened to self-worth for crying out loud?

Put it on tape? really? :howler:
what is wrong with you male peons?!
Clearly you have no game!

One night with Dags = best night of your life that you'll never forget!
there's no need for toys or tapes…

There's a reason why I have ex girlfriends naming their kids after me.
And an ex fiancée who moans my name every time she makes love to her husband!

but then again this is exactly what happens when you girls do not choose wisely! You date little boys or average men…in other words you settle for less/garbage!

Is Ballack the only German legend to not have won WC or Euro?

Too bad he missed WC 2010. Maybe he would have been the difference and helped to beat Spain. Though he was not at the top of his game at this time like in 2002...

Too bad he missed the final of WC 2002. We will never know if he could have worked his magic and help Germany upset that excellent Brazil team.

I kind of feel sorry for him because I loved the way he played the game. But at the same time, he was kind of a dick, so I won't lose any sleep over him not winning a trophy with Germany.

Any other German legends who didn't win Euro or WC? Even Kahn was on the Euro '96 team so he got a medal.

Game of the week: Inter vs Roma.

Well this week out of the big leagues this one looks interesting as an Inter win will mean Roma will be dethroned from the top spot, and if Roma wins, than it will mean they will not further extend their lead in the top, but also take a better lead a possible contender to challenge them in Inter.

discuss, and no Liverpool vs Chelsea is not the game of the week,

Man City signed Luke Brattan from Brisbane Roar, he's a midfielder, likely he'll never make the grade at Man City, but in being loaned out to Bolton, the experience he'll gain in the Championship will be fantastic for him in any case.

Is Tiki-taka the best tactic ever?

I was very critical of this formation at first, I must admit...my disdain toward's Guardiola blinded my judgement. :eekani::eekani::eekani:
Dags misses this formation, it was truly eye candy :proud:.
Tiki Taka is the only tactic that allows multiple legends come together.

It's such a simple formation based on ball possession.
Quote:

Tactically, Barca (2009) generally stuck to a 4-3-3 shape throughout the season, playing high up the pitch and pressing from the front. Henry stayed wide on the left, with Messi having more license to come in off the right wing, knowing that the energetic Dani Alves would be providing width. In midfield, Iniesta played furthest forward, Xavi was the calm, methodical ‘link’, whilst Yaya Toure sat deep infront of the centre-backs.
Let's look at these names again:

Valdes (GK)

D. Alves (RWB/RB)
Puyol (CB)
Pique (CB/SW)
Abidal (LB)

Toure (DM/BTB)
Xavi (CM)
Iniesta (AM)

Messi (FW/SS)
Etoo (ST)
Henry (FW/SS)

No box to box midfielders…
A #8 (CM) + A # 10 (AM) in midfield
No wingers but one of the FWs needs to be capable of playing on a flank (e.g. CRUYFF, RONALDINHO, MESSI, etc).
This formation looks unbalanced to the naked eye, so how does it work?
Again, it all comes down to ball possession and superb ball movement.

Tiki-Taka is probably the only tactic that will allow us, football lovers, field the team of our dreams!

And here it is!

The same format, but only 100x better :proud:
Thank you Guardiola for bringing sexy back :proud:!!!
Is Tiki-taka the best tactic ever?

2015/16 Croatian Cup

No real surprises up until now however both Dinamo and Hajduk were trailing against lower league opposition before turning it around. Two HNL sides are out with Istra losing to Zagreb today and last season's finalists RNK Split not even qualifying for the competition

The quarterfinal draw was already made and the matches will take place on December 2

Inter vs Roma ---- Week 11

Roma, most likely will lead after tonight's game v Udinese.

Match would be Sunday 1st November right after Halloween.

People now consider Perisic to be worse than Quaresma. I think he just need more time to 'get it' . So is Kondog. We may not win easily, but other teams can't beat us easily (Viola-aside :pp)

Before the start of the season. Most would be happy to take 10 Games 21 points. (38 games = 79.8 points). And Mancio is supposed to make them better after each passing game.

Positive side, we do not screw up so much in defense like before. Give them credit. we play better with 10 men... proven . Too congested with 11? Give them Credit too.

Maybe a Back 5 would provide better spaces for them up front.

Saturday 18:15 CET - Valencia vs Levante (aka city derby)

Well, if things can somehow get even worse, it is this match. Not winning against last team in Primera will surely get Nuno fired, or he is safe unless he relegate us?

Süper Lig Week 10: Osmanlıspor - Fenerbahçe

Volkan Demirel, Fabiano Riberio, Ertuğrul Taşkıran, Simon Kjaer, Bruno Alves, Gökhan Gönül, Şener Özbayraklı, Hasan Ali Kaldırım, Mehmet Topal, Josef de Souza, Raul Meireles, Ozan Tufan, Diego Ribas, Alper Potuk, Uygar Mert Zeybek, Lazar Markovic, Mehmet Topuz, Jose Fernandao ve Robin van Persie

Game is tomorrow, none this weekend. Nani, Ba, Caner, Sen and Kadlec all out injured. Will be a tough one.
Süper Lig Week 10: Osmanlıspor - Fenerbahçe

Atalanta - Lazio

Midweek game and an always tricky visit to Bergamo. Matri will probably start in place of Klose. Cataldi returns which means Onazi will be on the bench. Otherwise it's probably going to be the same line-up. Atalanta have been very strong at home this season, so I'd be pretty satisfied to get a draw from this one.

Would football be more entertaining played with cars and giant-sized balls?

Would football be more entertaining played with cars and giant-sized balls?

Can these team really finish about Juve, Roma and Napoli?

I really don't see how but,

Things to consider:

Napoli may still capitulate if they get a few injuries

Juve are still way behind on points

Roma always have injury problems

As I've said before, I think Mancini and Tohir need to admit their mistake and sign a proper midfield ball-player and backup forward in the winter window. The question, of course, is whether any good ones will be available, but we all know for a fact there are better players out there than Brozovic and Palacio - it is just a question of money.

Hoffenheim appoint 28 year old coach for 2016/2017 season

mardi 27 octobre 2015

Bundesliga club Hoffenheim have appointed a 28-year-old who has yet to pass his senior coaching exams as their manager from next season, which will make him the youngest ever boss in the German top flight.

Julian Nagelsmann has signed a three-year deal with the Bundesliga strugglers.

The club sacked Markus Gisdol on Monday, appointing 61-year-old Huub Stevens as his successor until the end of the campaign, with the Dutchman tasked with keeping struggling Hoffenheim up.

'We know this is a courageous step but we see in him (Nagelsmann) such a huge coaching talent that we want to give him a prospect,' Hoffenheim sports director Alexander Rosen told a news conference at Stevens' presentation.
Briefly an assistant coach during the 2012-13 campaign, Nagelsmann will remain with the Under 19 team until the end of the season as he continues studying for his senior coaching licence.

'I am looking forward to a very tempting task and I would like to thank everybody for the trust and the opportunity given to me,' Nagelsmann, who coached Hoffenheim's junior team to the 2014 German title, said in a club statement.

Hoffenheim, backed by billionaire Dietmar Hopp, are in 17th place with one win and six points from their first 10 games of the season.

Do you think Fagyi AKA Bentex is manipulative?

You don't have to give examples if you don't want...but please take part in the poll.

Serie A: Verona v Fiorentina

Verona v Fiorentina

Wednesday Night

Oh dear.

It's all gone horribly wrong somehow. Suddenly Paulo Sousa doesn't look as invincible as he once did. The team do not look unbeatable as it once did so recently and yet, our early start sees us only two points off the top.

There is still time to stop this rut of form but we must act fast to stay afloat. Many football followers have looked to us to provide the much needed spice Serie A needs to stop thagainst Verona who have taken five points e league becoming a Juventus title winning tradition and I think it's important that we live up to the reputation now that we are very much in the spotlight.

Our dodgy form returned after we had lost our most recent European match and we never seemed to recover after that. One notable thing from that match was the amount of players that had been rotated, however, the rotation policy seems to work fine for Montella so something has gone slightly wrong and needs to be put right.

We will get that opportunity against Verona who have taken five points so far this season.

Verona 4-3-3:[

Rafael

Pisano - Marquez - Moras - Souprayen

Sala - Greco - Hallfredsson

Jankovic - Pazzini - Gomez

Kalinic

Valero - Illicic

Astori - Gonzalo - Roncaglia

What if CR7 wins the next Euro and Messi fails...

…fails to win anything at the international level? Do you think historians will take that into consideration when ranking both of these players?

Will an international trophy give CR7 the edge over Messi?
That's essentially what gave PLATINI (inferior talent) the edge over ZICO (sublime talent), ain't that right?

Will history repeat itself?

&

Dags thinks it's possible but CR7's performance must be memorable!

Can you imagine Portugal defeating Germany in the final?:eek::eek: that would put him over the edge, IDHO!
